My Review - DeAnza Springs Resort My wife and I traveled to California in our RV in September and on the way back to the east coast decided to stop by DeAnza Springs Resort. The resort is just an hour or so from San Diego, so it made for a short travel day and afforded us the rest of the afternoon to enjoy the resort. We could not stay but a couple of days so we wanted to explore the high desert hills of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. The location in the desert affords hot and dry days and cool nights. DeAnza Springs Resort is a nice enclave of like-minded souls along with visitors like us. When we initially exited the freeway and headed back up the dirt roads toward the entrance we had our doubts. We traveled a couple of miles heading into absolutely nowhere. Even when we reached the gate and the deserted guard house we considered turning around and heading back. Only after we began the drive into the resort did we start to feel like we would stay. The facility was clean and well kept. The staff was friendly and welcoming as we arrived in the office. There was a slight problem finding 50 amp power connections for my RV. There are only a few 50 amp boxes available and we had to look at all the individual boxes to find the one that we could use. You would think that the management would have records for that, but the maintenance staff joined us as we peered into every electrical connection in the area, seeking our needed 50 amps. Once we located the perfect spot and finished the set-up of the RV, it was time for a Corona and cigar. After a few relaxing moments we took the dogs and explored the facilities. We headed straight for the hot tub and pool area to check them out. The outdoor pool was closed for the season, but there is an indoor heated pool. But we enjoyed the hot tub for sitting and relaxing. The end of the day usually brings together a gathering of individuals in the hot tub for discussions on all the topics of the day. I guess if I had one major complaint, it would be the neighbors that camped beside us on the second night. A small van-type camper pulled in loaded with 6, thats 6, males and a dog. I could not believe this facility would allow 6 single males traveling together to camp here. They were obviously not normally into the nudist lifestyle, it appears they just wanted to enjoy the sites. It was an uncomfortable time for us, but they only camped overnight and left the next morning. I enjoy hiking and particular enjoy hiking with only the covering that nature gave me. The feeling of freedom is unmatched walking along in the wide open with nothing on your body but the rays of the sun and the breeze. The hills of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park that adjoins the DeAnza Springs Resort are great for this. There is little, if any, chance of happening upon the textile encumbered public in this area. The trails are well traveled and the sites are incredible. We spent the better part of the day on two different trail hikes. There are no words to describe what we beheld, but I have included photos of the rock formations and other sightings along the trails. I could have stayed for a week and hiked many more of the trails that we could not get today that day. |
